Anal Cancer Symptoms

Anal cancer is a member of the colorectal cancer family and is a squamous cell carcinoma that surfaces near the squamo columnar junction.  Anal cancer is most most commonly detected after symptoms become present.  Early detection occurs most often during a digital rectum exam and/or anal papilloma (HPV) screening.  Various types of anal cancer include adenocarcinoma, lymphoma, sarcoma, and melanoma.

Anal cancer symptoms include:

- Rectal bleeding
- Itching of rectum
- Pain or pressure within anal area
- Changing of stool diameter
- Abnormal anal discharge
- Swollen lymph nodes (anus or groin)

Anal cancer is most often confused with hemorrhoids or anal warts since the symptoms are often quite similar.  If you experience any of the symptoms above, consult your physician immediately.  Early detection is important for successful treatment against anal cancer staging.
